Hi,
I am writing to inquire whether unbleached white flour from King Arthur Flour is OK. If it is not, that is fine, because I also have King Arthur Whole Wheat Flour.
Thanks,
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer.
Use whole wheat flour. The white flour has likely been altered by taking out the germ.
Be blessed on your fast.
Hi,
I thought we’re not supposed to eat anything processed while on the fast. Isn’t flour (regardless of type) processed?
Hi Caprice.
The way the term “processed food” is used is any raw agricultural commodities that have been altered to change its value. For example, whole grains vs. processed grains. The whole grain keeps all the elements in the grain together, whereas processed remove a portion of the grain so that usually only the starchy part remains.
I hope this helps. I know it can be a bit confusing.
What is the consistency of the dough supposed to be? Mine came out a sticky is that normal?
Hi Tiffany.
The dough might be a little sticky, but not much. Just add more flour and you will be fine. I’ve used this recipe many times with good success.
Be blessed on your fast.
FWIW, I tried making this by mixing the following:
1 cup almond
1 cup tapioca flour
1/2 cup chickpea flour
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups water
These turned out very much like what one would expect flatbread to be, but perhaps a touch on the “stretchy” side (due to the tapioca flour).
I made a second batch where I lessened the tapioca flour and increased the chickpea flour by 1/2 cup increments respectively and the result was more like stiff pancakes but still tasted great and went well with the soup/stews on this site.
Thank you for the resource! God bless your work!
Good morning Susan,
Any ideas on how to make this gluten free?
Kindly,
Kathy
Hi Kathy.
Since the Daniel Fast eating plan includes so many grains, I know this can be hard for those needing to be gluten-free. However, you can use your knowledge and stay within the guidelines with no or only slight modifications by choosing gluten-free grains, and eating lots of leafy green vegetables, legumes, and nuts.
If you need to make slight modifications, then do so, which is acceptable since it’s for medical needs.
Be blessed on your fast. I hope this helps.
I have been this week preparing my body for the upcoming fast. but I have been trying to find unleavened bread in any form. Cannot not even find in health food stores. Can you provide me with some ideas? I also cannot personally have flax seeds nuts corn or berries. Ugh. But I am determined to set my goals with the Lord. Also would like to know if avocados are ok? Thanks!
My wife has been doing banting/keto, and our experience with low carb flours like almond, walnut, coconut and sunflower, is that you need a binding ingredient . These low carb flours do not bind well with only water and/or oil.
How is this bread a part of Daniel fast? Are grains like wheat ok? And oat meal?
Hi Neesie. Yes, all whole grains are allowed on the Daniel Fast. The Scripture says Daniel and his companions ate only “pulse” and drank only water. Pulse is “food grown from seed.” So all whole grains are allowed on the Daniel Fast.
Be blessed.
Should there be some type of oil in the skillet? Thanks.
Hi Kelli,
I don’t use any oil. However, if your skillet does better brushed with a bit of oil, that’s fine. I don’t find it necessary.
Be blessed on your fast.
I’m not allowed to have wheat, but I do have walnut flour. I will try making it with that.
Hi Melissa,
You can try walnut flour or almond flour. I suggest you make a small test amount first. I’ve never made it with nut flours. Let me know your results. I’m curious.
Be blessed on your fast.
Can almond or coconut flour be substituted?
I suggest you test it first. Make a small batch to see if these flours adapt well.
Be blessed.
I can only use spelt flour or sprouted grain flour. Can either one of them be used?
Hi Robin,
I’m not really sure. I suggest you try a small batch and test it out. Let me know. I’m very curious.
Be blessed on your fast.
