The Daniel Fast can be a life-changing experience to you! Why? Not because the fast is powerful, but because God is! As we enter into this spiritual discipline of extended prayer and fasting we open our hearts to receive from our loving Father. We can draw near to Him. We can accept the many blessings He longs to give us!
Or . . . and it’s a big OR . . .
Or you can squelch God’s ability to work in your life by being so focused on yourself, and satisfying your flesh and its desires, that you will miss out! It’s like you’re looking the other way when the King passes by with His free and priceless gifts.
Remember what the writer of Hebrews said to chastise the believers he was addressing, “For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the first principles of the oracles of God; and you have come to need milk and not solid food.” Hebrews 6:12
It’s kind of like he was shaking his head and saying, “Grow up, folks! You should be so much more mature in your faith by now. But instead you’ve remained babies and so you can’t even receive the deep riches that is available to you. You should be so familiar with God’s truths that you could teach others about them!”
I have to say, I find the same for many who enter the Daniel Fast. They are so focused on what they will eat and what they will drink! In other words, they want to make sure their flesh is satisfied so they don’t experience any of the denial.
I know that may sound harsh . . . but I witness it all the time. I feel so sad for those who are stuck in that place of immaturity and worldliness.
These are typical statements I receive from men and women as they consider the Daniel Fast:
“How will I ever give up coffee? I just can’t do it.”
“What can I have instead of butter? Is there a brand that I can have on the Daniel Fast.”
“I plan to do the fast, but I’m not going to give up my Diet Pepsi or my morning toast.”
“I can’t stand to only have water to drink. I have to have juice or coffee or tea. Water is just too boring.”
Take notice of all the “I’s” in those messages. The flesh speaks!
I’ll never forget the experience of a woman who was livid with me because I kept telling her that the only beverage on the Daniel Fast was water. Here is the gist of what she wrote to me until she blocked any further exchanges:
“I don’t care what you say or the scriptures you quote. Other people who teach about the Daniel Fast say I can have juice to drink so I’m going to go and find one of them and follow their plan.”
The Flesh vs. the Spirit
Paul, as he tutored the believers in Galatia gave this instruction, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh.” Galatians 5:16.
And then he goes on and teaches, “And those who are Christ’s have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.” Galatians 6:24-25
Clearly, when we invite Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, we are called to a different way of living. We become citizens of God’s kingdom and we live by different standards. To have Christ living in us . . . we are called to crucify the flesh. We subjugate that ego/flesh part of us to God.
One of my favorite passages is from Galatians 2:20 ~
“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.”
The natural question is, “Yes, but how do I crucify the flesh?”
Get ready to gain some understanding. . .
A Priceless Lesson
One of the most valuable experiences you can have while on the Daniel Fast is crucifying the flesh. You can learn and practice putting your spirit, which is linked to the Spirit of God, in control. You can choose to walk in the Spirit! You can choose to live in the Spirit. You can choose to turn away from the easy-to-consume milk and instead fill your spiritual plate with the deep truths the Lord wants to serve you.
On the Daniel Fast, you are invited to a feasting table of rich spiritual lessons and blessings from the Lord. But there are some requirements. You need to have a level of maturity (or a desire for growth, which is a sign of maturity) before you can enter the banquet room.
You can say, “Flesh, sit down. I have a meeting with my Father.”
Or, you can continue to cater to your flesh and miss out on what could be the most nourishing meal of our life.
The choice is yours . . . which way will you go?

Thank you for the feeling good in the spirit information. Loved reading the testimonies..Good advice like a Christian should do.
all the glory and honor to the lord jesus Christ for the Daniel fast
I HAVE to share a testimony of what led me to the Daniel Fast. Currently, my life is full of stress and angst and one night, I dropped to my knees and cried out to God for answers. I confessed to him that I can be deaf and dumb at times and that I needed Him right now to give me His wisdom on what to do. The words “Fast” came out so quickly. I looked up from prayer and said, “Really Lord? I love food. I love cooking food, I pride myself in cooking for my family and you want me to fast? Sandy doesn’t fast. The only time I use that word is involving speed! I want to be obedient in what You are telling me to do, but I have no idea how to go about doing what you’re asking. I ask for answers, Lord. I need you to tell me what to do.” So, the next day while sitting in a waiting room for a Doctor’s appt, my Bible app reminded me to do my daily devotion. As I opened it, it was Daniel 1:12. The Father answered me and it was so clear! So, I ordered my book and will be preparing my lists for shopping next week! To God the glory!
Wow! What a great testimony of God’s amazing love and direction for us as we put our trust in Him.
Be blessed on your fast!
I plan on starting the fast in one week and today is day one of stopping coffee and getting in my daily half gallon of water. My head is already pounding, but I know this is the beginning process of denying the flesh. I rarely take any OTC medications, but will it be okay to take any OTC pain relievers while fasting?
Yes, it’s okay to take meds. I encourage you to taper off the caffeine to avoid the withdrawals.
Be blessed on your fast!
Several ladies and I started on the Daniel Fast for the month of May. We’re going before the Lord to grow and also coming against strongholds. I didn’t think I could do this but I’m 10 days in and so far so good. My issue right now is making sure I have the right foods and cooking it properly. I find that I’m focusing a lot on that because my husband (who is not yet saved) decided to join me and he is a type 1 diabetic. I need to make sure that he’s getting the proper nutrition. I need to spend more time in prayer and reading the Word as well. I just purchased your book and am starting it tonite. Thank you for your guidance!
Absolutely!
Day 4 of my first fast ever.
On day 3, I had a revelation. I realized that the success in being able to strongly deny my flesh has come from years of God preparing me to do so. Once my spirit realized that the only way to be successful in this fast is to trust in God that he will fill me with whatever teachings he wants. If losing some of the extra weight goes along with it, then so be it. What I’m gaining from learning how to rely solely on God is worth so much more than adjusting to the visions of this earth. I am so grateful. I thank God for guiding me. For not leaving me. No matter what justification I gave for doing the things I’ve done, he allowed me to come back into his grace. I feel him extremely present in my life right now. Almost as if I’m visually impaired and he guides me by holding my hand. He speaks through me to those around me about my fast and my journey. He presents me as if he is so extremely proud of his child. Like a dad showing off his son’s MVP trophy or a mother showing off her daughters Ivy league double major Master’s degree graduate. With the love he flows for me and through me, I feel invincible. I feel incredible! Part of me still wants a Medium Well Steak burger with extra onions and A1 sauce, but don’t worry, God has proven that he is not through with me yet!
Thanks Sister Susan. Your books are a great guide for this fast. My book of choice has been The Daniel Fast: feed your soul, strengthen your spirit, and renew your body. Along with The Daniel Fast Workbook. May God continue to bless you for your faithfulness and obedience.
Thank you for sharing. What a wonderful testimony of God’s love and Grace.
I wish we wouldn’t make things complicated.
Drink? Water
Losing weight? Is that the main purpose? It shouldn’t be.. don’t lose focus. This is something to receive more of God. NOTHING ELSE
Just obey the word. Daniel did and we’re still reading about how God moved in his life. Just do it in prayer and obedience, not questioning or we will miss out on it’s purpose.
So true in the fast many lose focus on what the fast is all about. It’s not about drinking water or not eating food. It’s all about emptying one’s heart out (humble ourselves ) because our hearts become like a dirt bin full of rubbish of the world eg: soap opera dramas, social media, certain topics, etc.; and God wants us to disconnect ourselves from all that contaminates us and click into his Holy Spirit. Remember Daniel and his 3 friends that did not eat from the king’s table ( the world ) like the rest of the other men, but they chose foods like vegetables and water (the Holy Spirit) and they were found to be well built ( spiritually minded). So let’s not misunderstand what the fasting is all about. Stay blessed and renewed in this fast. God bless you all in Jesus name
Hello, I began my fast with my church on Jan 11th. I am doing well, but I want to be sure I am doing it correctly. My church is doing a corporate Daniel Fast. My Pastor gave us all instructions and plenty worksheets of what we can and cannot eat. The list looks exactly like the one here! We are to fast from 6AM-6PM. I have been drinking water only all day until 6 PM, then I have the fruits and vegetables as permitted. Surprisingly, I have not missed eating and really enjoy the time I have spent in the Word and with God. I am about 60 lbs overweight so I’m shocked myself! Am I doing this correctly, or can I have my fruit, vegetables and nuts during the day if I need to? The eating is not important to me, I just don’t want to mess up my commitment to the Lord to complete this. Thanks for your guidance. Be Blessed! 🙂
The Daniel Fast is 24/7 – with no time restrictions . . . unless you choose to add that component to the fast. If that’s part of what your pastor is directing, then I say follow him.
Be blessed on you fast! Sounds like you are doing great and that the Lord is helping you in a mighty way! He is changing you from the inside out!
Thank you so much Susan and God bless you! I have seen so many changes so far its overwhelming! I had 9 nodules in my throat discovered by my endocrinologist they were growing. I felt them everytime I swallowed and would often wake from sleep choking not being able to breath because they were growing. I believe God has healed me! I swallow normally now and can sing or praise God loudly with no pain! It hasn’t been confirmed yet because my appointment with her is in 2 weeks, but I feel the difference, I thank Him everyday and I believe its DONE! Also,I notice since beginning my fast and focusing on Him, my strong desires for meat is gone..I have made dinner for my family as usual, pork chops, beef roasts, speghetti, hamburgers, ribs, mac and cheese, you name it, and I have not had any desire to partake of any of it! That was not in my nature before. My focus is on serving Him and I love Him more and more all the time. As a matter of fact I was ready to continue this way of eating and serving Him because I had really bad IBS, gastritis, pancreatitis and other gastric issues (all completely gone since the fast). Then I got the daily email from you yesterday saying it wasn’t best to continue the fast after the set stop date because God means it as a means of propelling us in our faith.I do understand the importance of that but do I REALLY have to stop? I feel soooo good! I will never stop praying, laying before Him and studying the Word, but I’m seriously thinking of becoming vegan because of this fast. Thanks for blessing all of us with all this valuable information. I am forever grateful. I pray you have not seen all God has for you..Many Blessings
A
Hi. Susan been in the fast for 7 days . Just making sure is there certain amounts we are to eat daily?
Not really, Terry. However you do want to keep in mind that this is a fast. So wise portions is a good move during the fast and always 🙂
My question is not necessarily in regards to the Daniel fast because i know it requires you to cut out flour. My question is, if you are on a fast that says no bread; would that include tortilla? Please let me know if you could.
Whole grain flour is allowed on the Daniel Fast. Just no leavening agents. So that’s why raised breads are not allowed.
You can have tortillas, but the problem is that most store-bought varieties are packed with chemicals, lard, and other ingredients not allowed on the Daniel Fast. I encourage people to make their own or use Ezekiel 4:6 Sprouted Wraps, which are available at health food stores.
I have been on the Daniel Fast for 10 days now, I feel so much better health wise, but I have not lost any weight, I have actually gained about 4 pounds. I am drinking about 200 ounces of water a day, sometimes more, should I cut back on my water intake? I am following all of the diet regulations, and I have been eating a lot of fruits and vegetables, along with oatmeal with flaxseed. I have been walking between 7-10,000 steps a day. Any advise?
I guess it wasn’t an important question!
Oops, Pamela!
I truly didn’t think your question wasn’t important. I expect that you became the victim of my blurry eyes and numb fingers. I respond to more than 150 questions almost every day during the fast. I have more than 850 emails sitting in my inbox right now (Lord, help me). So my guess is that accidently clacked when I should have clicked. I am so sorry!
Now, back to the issue. Your body may be holding on to weight for now and then you will likely start to lose at a faster pace. Also, I’ve fasted at times with a lot of fruit and not lost any weight. So if you’re eating a lot of fruit or vegetables that are higher in sugar, you might want to cut back and exchange for more green :-).
Otherwise, it sounds like you are doing well and not overeating . . . see how it goes as you progress during your fast.
Be blessed!
Hard to believe you are still ganing with this type of change. How many portions of fruits and vegetables are you eating daily. Also, water should be proportional to exercise load also as you could be retaining water due to high salt intake previously in your diet. Watch high sodium in thongs you but. I suspect stay the course and your weight will begin to fall. Remember to use same scale for consistency
I do not eat salt, except what’s already been salted. I eat oatmeal with a banana for breakfast, I eat a snack size bag of baby carrots with black bean hummus for lunch, and supper is usually a rice cake with peanut butter. My in between snacks are generally apples or oranges, or cantaloupe. I alternate my evening meal with sautéed vegetables. I use only one scale. I am not giving up!
Thank you for your advise.
I have started the Daniel fast & I’m still learning I be confused about what to eat all I was told for the first 2 weeks Fruits, Vegatables, & nuts. No explained what Kind of Anything specific or what so i really dont know can someone help me understand better.
Hi Diana,
The best way to prepare for a successful Daniel Fast is to learn about it. So it’s good you are seeking knowledge. Here are three resources to gain more knowledge:
1. The Daniel Fast book – I wrote this book for the very purpose you are presenting. It covers the fast, how to fast successfully, a complete cookbook, and a daily devotional.
2. This site. Food List and other pages here have lots of information.
3. My other Daniel Fast Site. Again, lots of information including videos that offer a lot of information about the Fast.
Hey,
Can I drink soy milk?
No, the only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water.
“Prove thy servants, I beseech thee, ten days; and let them give us pulse to eat, and water to drink” Daniel 1:12
Pulse is food grown from seed . . . and water is water. LOL This is why it’s the only beverage on the fast.
You could use unsweetened juice or unsweetened plant-based milk in a recipe.
Be blessed on your fast!
Susan, one point I’d like to clear up. I understand that water is the only thing allowed as a beverage. However, in preparation for the fast, I read through the food list several times. As far as fruit, it lists the ways fruit can be eaten and one of those is “juiced”. Just wondered in light of that, why fruit or vegetable juices are not allowed if they are natural with no sugars added.
Hi Sharon,
I hope this will help:
The only beverage on the Daniel Fast is water. That comes from Daniel 1.
For example, I make my own salad dressing using fruit juice. I also make breakfast smoothies using juice and/or plant-based milks. So you can use juice in recipes, but not as a beverage.
Be blessed on your fast!
I f you can only drink water….. isn’t a breakfast smoothie a drink?
Dear Susan,
I’m having trouble finding frozen fruit or vegetables with out sugar even organic …..HELP! !
Wow! Even frozen? Most of the frozen fruits and vegetables I purchase are just the food item with no added ingredients.
As for as canned foods, look for the “Lite” variety. They usually have only foods canned in their natural juices.
ALSO . . . make sure you are reading the list of INGREDIENTS and NOT the nutritional analysis. Just about all foods have natural sugars in them – so the nutritional analysis will show sugar. That’s okay on the Daniel Fast. What is NOT okay is added sugar, which shows up on the list of ingredient on the food label.
Be blessed!
Can eat almonds, pecans, crackers, cereal, drink soy milk, grilled chicken during the 21 day daniel fast?
Fransleeca,
I encourage you to read this: Food List
Not cereal no meet
You can have whole grain cereal, such as oatmeal or muesli. And only plant-based foods, so no animal products.
I have started Daniel’s fast for first time. I am praying for world peace, that our dear Lord Jesus saves all of the unsaved, that every country STOPS killing each other-that they stop killing our and their sons and daughters and that we truly start loving each other as Jesus loves us and that each of us become obedient to His direction. Thank you for this site.
I also need to know if I can use whey protein in my drink and have oatmeal without sugar. I have had extensive back surgery and daily pain. Hopeful that whey protein might help me heal. Thanks again.
Oatmeal with fresh or dried fruit and unsweetened plant-based milk is allowed and a good idea for your Daniel Fast. Whey is not allowed on the fast, howeve you can find plant-based, unsweetened protein powders that will have the same or better benefits to your health.
Be blessed on your fast!
Hi Susan,
I was invited to an office luncheon and wanted to know is balsamic dressing allowed on the fast? If not, what can I substitute it with?
Thanks
Balsamic may be allowed, however it depends on the ingredients included in the one served. The best thing is olive oil and fresh lemon! Easy, available and clean.
Be blessed!
Hello Susan,
I want to thank you personally for what you have allowed God to do through you using the Daniel fast. This is my fourth Daniel fast with you, I’m so glad to be able to do it again this year. I am struggling with certain issues in my private life, nothing to do with food, I’m vegan. So far, God has been speaking directly to my situation through the Daniel fast devotionals, it’s truly amazing. I’m simply in awe of how much He cares for me.
Stay blessed as we grow together in the grace, love and knowledge of Jesus Christ our Lord.
Thank you so much for your loving message, Vernetta.
I am blessed beyond words to be have this work. God is so good and I give all praise to Him.
It’s stunning how God meets and shows us answers, direction and so much more when we draw near to Him. Extended prayer and fasting affords us that consecrated time to be with Him. Praise God. I am so glad you are receiving what He has to show you.
Be blessed, dear one!
I had a coworker, talking to another coworker about the fast that I was doing. She had asked me yesterday why I was just eating fruits and veggies, and I explained the Daniel fast. She then said yea, I have heard a lot of churches do that. Well today she came in and told another girl, that Daniel did not eat any fruit . The word pulse means a plant yielding pulse. Yielding means to produce or provide something such as from a plant. But this is what is wrong with churches, some think that they know more than others and are too busy running what others feel led to do, instead of getting in one mind and one accord! My what a manifestation we could see of God! Suzanne thank you for opening my eyes to this fast and for allowing God to use you!
You are so right, Tracy. There is a lot of erroneous information “out there.”
Yes, Daniel asked to only eat pulse, which is food grown from seed; and to drink only water. Some versions of the Bible translate “pulse” to mean vegetables, but that is incomplete. The Hebrew and then later the KJV uses the word pulse.
Be blessed on your fast!
Hi Ms. Gregory , The church that I go to have started our fast January 4th. I’m excited about the fast for several reasons. I’m looking so to get closer to GOD and to experience weight loss also.
I find myself getting aggravated. I don’t want focus on food or weight loss but it gets hard sometimes. I’m not going to stop because I know there is a greater reward from GOD and I want to go deeper in him! Please if u will just shine a little light on my situation!
I encourage you to see yourself as the precious child of God that you are . . . and to climb up onto the lap of your loving Father and share your heart with Him. Talk to Him about your feelings, and then listen. Quiet yourself and let Him show you what He would have you learn.
You also might want to read this article that may speak to your situation: Unpack
Be blessed on your fast! You can do this and find the peace you desire.
Hi Susan
I’m from South-Africa and started on the Daniel fast. The first day was really hard, but once I stumbled on this websites, I keep caming back wanting to know more. In the past fasting was just giving up one or two things and was not hard at all and I must admit the fast did not make me grow. It was like a diet. Now wow, though my flesh seems to be screaming at times I feel God spirit around. Thank you for “daniel-fast.com”. My church has early morning meeting, but with small children and my husband leaving that time for work I’m missing out on that leadership that I need. So I get it on-line. Without this I would probably gave given up as I was not approaching it correctly.
Dearest Anja,
Thank you so much for your message. Yes, I know what it’s like to feel somewhat disconnected and needing to find support in other ways. Good for you for reaching out and finding a place to receive feeding!
You can also find more on my other site (the first one I created way back in 2007) – http://danielfast.wordpress.com
By the way, I’ll be in South Africa in July on my way to Zimbabwe. I love your country and have great friends there!
Be blessed on your fast!
Hi Susan,
Is cream crackers allowed on the fast
It all depends on the ingredients. I am not familiar with cream crackers. Compare the list of ingredients used to make the crackers with the foods allowed on the fast. My guess is that they are not allowed. But you can determine that by looking at the list of ingredients.
Hi Susan.
Can I start the fast if I’m breastfeeding? My baby is 3 months old.
I really would like to do it.
Thanks
Yes, Almendra.
You can use the fast (be sure to follow the guidelines as I teach them as there is a lot of erroneous information out there in books and on the web). I suggest the nursing mothers modify the fast to meet the special health needs of supporting two lives! You may want to add extra protein into your eating plan and as appropriate. Perhaps eggs, fish, poultry. You can keep the spirit of the fast and just make these simple modifications.
Be blessed
Susan, I’m late to posting this on the blog, but still wanted to share what I had written on the FB post about your message…
Boy, another one of those days where God speaks directly to me…BEFORE you posted this, I sat memorizing the following verse: “Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life.”
Galatians 6:8 NIV

God is so good! He wants to pour out His wisdom and blessings to us! Our part is to keep our eyes on Him and receive what He has. Knock. Seek. Find.
Happy New Year and thank you for your message.
Amen! Starting my fast properly tomorrow as I spent the day today preparing myself mentally and emotionally. I live in England although I am originally from Zimbabwe. The last 3 years I have been going backwards and forwards to Harare and we have now finalised the launch of our charity which assists girls to leave the streets by teaching them life skills like sewing and also giving them the word of God. It is amazing working with the young girls and hearing about their experiences.. The Daniel fast is something I have always wanted to do so I can hear from God and not succumb to fleshly desires and addictions. May God bless you Susan Gregory and all who contribute to this forum. Love and peace.
Lizzie, Burton-on-Trent, UK
Thank you and blessings to you, Lizzie.
Happy New Year as you enter into this powerful spiritual discipline.
im starting fasting today for the first time in my life and I ask God to give me the stregth and do me favour to stick on reading scriptures and pray for my goals .plesse pray with me
I am doing the Daniel Fast for the first time beginning today. I feel that the 10 day fasts that are generally in my country, Zimbabwe, are not yielding the results that I seek as an individual and that my country needs to overcome the political and socio-economic challenges plaguing it.
I want and need to grow closer to the Lord and learn to trust Him implicitly, especially in tough circumstances affecting my personal life and my nation. It is really only the Lord who can give me/us direction in 2016.
Please remember us in your prayers.
Thanks
Margret
Dearest Margret,
Thanks for your message. You will find this extended time of prayer and fasting a blessing. For me, there have been times when I felt led to continue even after the 21 days. Allow the Holy Spirit to work in your heart and lead you.
Zimbabwe is one of my favorite places! I will be there in July to work with women to train them in business practices so they can support their families. I was there a few years ago on a pastors’ training program. I met so many wonderful people. I was in Hwange then and will be at Victoria Falls this time.
Be blessed and Happy New Year.
I don’t get my book until the6of January so do I start then or wait until the 11 of January?
Hi Mary,
You can start o the 4th if you feel led to that date. The main thing is you want to be well-prepared. So if you feel okay to start before you have the book, then that’s good. Otherwise, start praying now and then when the book comes, learn and being.
Be blessed
My pastor talks about setting goals and having a purpose for the Daniel fast. Should just crucifying the flesh by the goal to get more in tune with God or should I ask for more specific goals, such as to stop cussing? I’m just being real… I have difficulty with becoming inpatient or angry and speaking bad language. Maybe I should look to have a more intimate relationship with God and trusting he will speak to me about habits I need to break? This is my first fast and I am confused… Please include me in your prayers. I really do want to have a more intimate relationship with God and live a more Godly life.
First of all, good for your pastor! That’s great advice!
What is your greatest need right now? Spend some time with the Lord. Sit quietly with that question before you and ask Him to guide you. Let Him show you. Sometimes that will be a “notion” you receive from the still small voice of the Lord. There might be thoughts that “bubble up to the surface.”
Your loving Father wants to minister to you always, including during your time of extended prayer and fast. He is there to give you the care and support you need as you shift our eyes to Him and learn how to walk in the Spirit in a greater and more profound way.
I hope this helps!
I thought I left a comment earlier but I am not seeing it. I noticed that there is some foods not included in the list of foods, for example: pomegranates, almonds, coconut/oil, pepitas (pumpkin seeds). Should these be included and if not …why. Thanks in advance.
Hi Cristi,
Yes, all those foods are allowed on the Daniel Fast. Too many individual foods to list . . . but all are allowed!
Hi ☺
Just wondering what the rules are for medications.
Thanks.
Tara,
Continue with all medication taken according to advice of your health provider.
Fasting should never bring harm to your body. I say, “Follow the advice of your earthly physician while you pray for health and healing for the Great Physician.”
Be blessed on your fast!
I am looking forward to starting the Fast on Monday 4th January for the first time. I pray the Lord that I might be able to focus on the spiritual and prayer aspect first and foremost and not to look at the food aspect quite as much. I pray that the ?Lord will help me with my sugar cravings and addiction to overeating, and that I might find a true spiritual renewal through fasting and prayer.
I will be starting the fast tomorrow (01/02). This will be my 2nd time participating in a New Year’s fast. I believe I have a better grasp this time as to the true purpose of the fast – to walk in the Spirit with an expectation of intimacy and guidance from Him. Having this enlightenment, I am better prepared for the battles of the flash that I know will be ahead and I will intensely rely on HIm during those battles and remember your words, Susan ” Are you feeding your body? Or are you indulging your flesh?” Looking forward to this time with our Lord !
Praise God, Dayna!
Sometimes we don’t take seriously the phrase, “Keep your eyes on Jesus.” Clearly, that’s what you are purposing for your fast. Not so it will be just a 21-day closeness. Instead, that you will learn and grow and bring what you experience into your everyday life.
Blessing to you!
I am so very excited to start my Daniel fast,I have started praying about my fast and I know god would never leave us nor forsake us. Thank u Susan for helping god people. My fast begin on 4th January very excited.
More and more as the 4th approaches I am sure this is what the Lord wants of me. It is not about my flesh, it is more about me understanding
and growing in His name!!!!! Thank you Susan for your support.
I will be starting the Daniel fast on the 4th of January, the same day I’m going back to work from leave. I pray that I concentrate on my spirit and my main reason for fasting; and that I beat the daily temptations that surround me both at home & work. Be blessed and let us pray that each one of us who starts this journey, completes it.
I am so very excited about The Daniel Fast…..as a way to get more intimate with my Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As I was preparing my meal plans, I noticed it said you could eat peanut butter, every peanut butter I looked at had sugar in it, even the organic and all natural. I did not get it because the fast says no sugar, can someone clarify this for me, please?
Pamela, make sure you are looking at the ingredients and not the nutritional analysis. You can find brands that only have peanuts and salt for ingredients. I make my own at my supermarket. Just peanuts and nothing else.
Be blessed!
I did, my 2 daughters and myself looked at every one on the shelf and they were all the same. I will check a different supermarket. I started my Daniel Fast today, and so far everything is great! Thank you, so very much!!
Smuckers brand have one with only peanuts and salt. There is a layer of oil that you will need to mix into the rest but it’s great!
Starting my first Daniel fast on the 11th Jan 2016. Please keep me in your prayers.
Thank you for your wisdom. I am starting the fast on January 4. I pray God gives me grace to pray more and to deal with sugar withdrawals. I pray he gives me the grace to deal with all the food temptations that will be around me during this fast. I pray he heals my heart and delivers me from those things that so easily moves my flesh to be angry, frustrated, worried, and anxious. I pray that all fear will be cast out of my life. I pray food will no longer be my safe haven, but Jesus will always be safe haven. I pray that I will trust Him. Jesus is my first Love, but because of life’s circumstances, I haven’t been abiding. I pray I will abide and not try to control my life. I pray for forgiveness. Thank you Lord, for this journey and how you will lead me, Jesus. In Jesus’s Name, Amen! Thank you for allowing me to set a prayer goal and confess so that I can have someone to agree with me and so that I can be healed. Blessings to you for all that you do for others! Thank you again!
Love that me too I will try for the spiritual committment
Hello Kenya,
We can do this! by trusting the God we serve to help us. I struggle with sweets as well and I am being treated for Diabetes. I also deal with frustration with my daycare parents, because most of them are between 19 and 25 with several children each. Their perspective of parenting is much different than my more “seasoned” ? generation. So I am asking God to show me how to help them to raise children that will be a pillar of strength in our society, educationally, spiritually, physically and mentally. I am praying for patience, creativity, help and strength to do HIS will.
Be blessed and ask him to take the wheel of your life.
I am looking forward to the spiritual journey of the Daniel Fast. Am a bit concerned, not needing to lose weight…Dr does not want me to lose any. Can I still follow the journey, perhaps eat larger portions of the allowed foods to keep weight stable and still experience the spiritual growth? Blessings to all!
Hi Christine,
You can maintain your weight on the Daniel Fast. Be sure to follow the guidelines I teach. And eat foods that are higher in calories and carbs. You will do fine. Be blessed!
Thank you Susan. Preparing and so looking forward to this journey!
A wonderful journey, and also feeling so much healthier. Will do this again, and making some permanent changes to my diet. Thank you for sharing and supporting. God is so good, and I appreciate the abundance of fresher, healthy foods He provides for us!!!
